Ryan Giggs believes Aaron Ramsey will flourish under incoming Arsenal boss Unai Emery
Aaron Ramsey has been backed to go to the next level under incoming Arsenal boss Unai Emery.
Ramsey was made Gunners skipper for Wenger’s final game in charge – a 1-0 win over Huddersfield – after a campaign in which he scored 11 goals in 32 games.
“Aaron has only played under Arsene at Arsenal,” said Ramsey’s Wales boss Ryan Giggs. “I look at it positively; a new manager could come in and improve someone who is already a quality player.
“Now you’re seeing Aaron’s full potential because he’s playing regularly. When you’re in and out of the team it’s difficult and I think a lot of it is down to his fitness.
“You get to an age where you have had injury problems and you know your body then. That’s what Aaron is coming to. I don’t care how good you are, if you are in and out of the team through injury then you are not going to play to your full potential.
“Now you are seeing what he is capable of for his club.”
Giggs will work with Ramsey for the first time as an international boss when his Wales side take on Mexico in Pasadena in the early hours of next Tuesday morning.
Wales flew to America on Tuesday, with Giggs fulsome in his praise of Ramsey’s ability.
More than 65,000 tickets have already been sold for Wales’ clash with Mexico which will take place at the 90,888 capacity Rose Bowl stadium.
“I don’t know about building the Arsenal team around Aaron because they have fantastic players,” said Manchester United legend Giggs.
“But if you are looking at someone to lead by example as a manager, then I’m sure Aaron ticks a lot of the boxes in that regard.
“As I’ve said about Joe Allen, until you actually get to work with brilliant players, perhaps you don’t appreciate how good they are.
“Aaron can play in a two in midfield, at number 10, or be an attacking midfielder in a three so there are plenty of options regarding his position because he’s an intelligent player.
“You don’t get many midfielders who score goals. They don’t grow on trees. You want him in as many attacking areas as you can.”
