Giggs: Squad injuries present an opportunity to others

Aaron Ramsey will miss Wales’ friendly against Trinidad and Tobago in Wrexham on Wednesday (20 March) night as a result of a thigh injury.

The midfielder joins Sam Vokes, Ethan Ampadu and Tom Lawrence on the injury list as Ryan Giggs’ men prepared for the game at Manchester United’s Carrington Training Ground on Tuesday.

Speaking about Wales’ injury concerns, Giggs said: “Ethan’s got a slight back strain, Tom was struggling with one ankle and got a knock on the other ankle and Vokes has been struggling with his groin… so all three of them are unavailable.”

He added: “Aaron has got a slight knock on his thigh so we’re monitoring the situation but he should be okay.”

However, these injuries have left room for Wales’ younger and newer faces to make a name for themselves on the international stage.

Giggs said: “ Players are at different stages so some players need games, some don't." The likes of Rabbi Matondo, Will Vaulks and and Daniel James are all expected to feature with Giggs calling the fixture “a good opportunity” to mix up the team selection.

Trinidad and Tobago manager Dennis Lawrence will be returning to the Racecourse Ground where he spent five years as a player going on to make 198 league appearances for Wrexham.

Lawrence said: “Trinidad and Tobago is my country, it’s my home - but Wrexham is my heart.”
