Giggs launches FAW Community Football Awards

Wales National Team Manager Ryan Giggs says it’s vital our football volunteers are recognised for their part in growing Welsh football.
 
As he launched the 2018 FAW Grassroots Football Awards nomination window, the manager said: “It’s really important that people nominate the volunteers in their clubs and communities for these awards because so many of them never  get the recognition they deserve.”
 
Before taking the manager’s job, Giggs was a keen supporter of community football, in his work as an ambassador for the FAW’s grassroots partner McDonald’s.
 
Five months into the job, he insists he appreciates how these volunteers will shape the future of his national team.
 
At the 2018 launch, the former Manchester United star took a training session alongside Rhosddu United Juniors coach Ashley Edwards, who is our reigning Volunteer of the Year.
 
As the session came to a close, Giggs said: “Everyone has to start somewhere. This is where we’ll unearth the next Gareth Bale, Aaron Ramsey or Joe Allen.
 
 
“I know from first-hand experience, having been involved with my local team when I was 11, the special work that coaches and volunteers like Ashley do.”
 
The nomination window for the 2018 FAW Grassroots Football Awards is open until 31 May and Giggs is urging all supporters of the domestic game to nominate now.
 
He said: “These awards recognise the hard work our volunteers put in.
 
“I’ve been fortunate enough to attend several awards ceremonies and I’ve heard all sorts of great stories from all sorts of volunteers from different walks of life.”
