Llanelli tie up shock fixture with Manchester Utd in August
WELSH Premier League club Llanelli have confirmed they have agreed a shock friendly with Manchester United.
The Reds will play United — one of the biggest clubs in world football — at Parc y Scarlets on August 8 (7.45).
Though the likes of Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs and Nani are highly unlikely to feature, it should prove a huge money-spinner for Llanelli, who have opted to move the game from their Stebonheath Park home.
Reds boss Andy Legg used his contacts to help set up the fixture, with Darren Ferguson — son of Red Devils boss Sir Alex — a close friend.
Ferguson junior helped persuade the United boss to agree to the game, and the Reds are now poised for a game that should reap numerous benefits.
Legg said: "I am very pleased that such a great club as United have agreed to play us in August and I am very grateful to Darren Ferguson for helping me contact his father and get the game arranged.
"We are all looking forward to the game and I would hope that all sports fans in Llanelli and the South Wales area will flock to Parc y Scarlets on the night as we don't get the chance to see many Premier League sides live in South Wales."
Further information regarding ticketing, sponsorship and corporate hospitality for the game will be announced in the near future.
