Daniel James opens up on Ryan Giggs relationship

Manchester United's Daniel James has reiterated how Wales boss and Reds legend Ryan Giggs is playing a huge role in his development.

The new signing from Swansea impressed on his non-competitive United debut, a 2-0 victory over Perth Glory which was secured by Marcus Rashford and James Garner goals.

Many United fans were impressed by James' pace and he was awarded Man Of The Match by supporters on social media.

James will hope to emulate the success of fellow countryman Giggs at Old Trafford — the current Wales boss won an incredible 13 Premier League titles under the tutelage of Sir Alex Ferguson is a United career stretching more than 20 years.

"He wasn't bad was he?" said James when asked about his relationship with Giggs by the BBC.

"Every young winger looks up to someone like him and he is obviously someone I aspire to be like. As soon as I came into the Wales set-up, he had ambitions for me and, after I joined United, he made a point of speaking to me and telling me to be myself."

James admitted he's been overwhelmed by the level of support he's received since signing for United. The former Swansea winger is getting his first taste of being a Reds player on the current tour of Australia. United face Leeds United in Perth on Wednesday and will again be well supported, as they will in further matches in Singapore, Shanghai, Oslo and Cardiff.

"It's surreal," added the 21-year-old.

"The amount of fans that came to training on Thursday, then those who came to the game against Perth Glory. It just shows the support this club has got. It is amazing really."
