Tweet of the day: Ryan Giggs' dour facial expression hasn't changed much in 20 years
Kevin Ashford: In 1993 I met Ryan Giggs at the Cliff. In 2013 me & my son Georgie met Ryan Giggs at Carrington
20 years after his first meeting with Ryan Giggs, a Man United fan ran into his hero once again and this time, he brought his son along for company. You’d think Giggs would have been happier to see them.
We jest, of course. While Giggs’ facial expressions have barely changed over 20 years, it is remarkable that he is still on the go and, judging by some of his displays over the Christmas, particularly his gorgeous pass for Robin van Persie’s goal against West Ham at the weekend, there’s still life in the old dog yet.
Giggs’ longevity was really brought into perspective in the last day or so when a photograph surfaced on Twitter of his meeting with a United fan back at the Old Cliff training ground in 1993 and was featured alongside a brand new photograph of the same United fan, this time accompanied by his son, running into Giggs outside Carrington in the last few days.
While the expression on Giggs’ face has barely changed, he has wisely decided to get rid of the ridiculously oversized peaked-cap and he’s also driving a far better motor than his 1993 version, which could well have been an old model Toyota Starlet judging by the admittedly little evidence on offer in the picture.
If the little fella is a budding footballer and looking for a role model to follow, he could do a lot worse than try and replicate what the Manchester United number 11 has done on the field over the years.
Off the field, not so much.
