Park: Giggs simply the best

Ji-sung Park has sung the praises of Ryan Giggs, with the South Korean insisting that the 37-year-old is simply getting even better with age.

Park joined Manchester United in 2005, when Giggs had already been at the club for over 15 years. Park has played alongside the stalwart for his entire career at the Old Trafford club.

And when asked on the official United website which player is the best he’s ever played with, Park hardly hesitated before choosing Giggs, who is now in his 22nd senior year with the club.

“Who is the best?” he said. “There's a lot of players so it's difficult. I'll choose Giggsy.

“He's achieved a lot and his abilities - when I came here he was 32, I can't imagine how good he was when he was 24-25, he must have been unbelievable.

“I am upset I wasn't here training with him then. He's still playing at a high level and showing his qualities."

Park also revealed that when Sir Alex Ferguson offered him a contract at United, he couldn’t believe his luck, and had a lot of background work on adjusting to English culture to do before he left PSV Eindhoven.

“I couldn't believe it,” he said.

“I didn't know why he wanted me to come. I was very happy to think I could go to a big club but he offered it to me and I couldn't believe it.

“I couldn't reject that offer because everyone wants to come to United. Actually when I spoke with him on the phone for the first time, I wasn't very good at speaking English then but he spoke very slowly but even then I could only understand little bits. I've been getting used to it but it's still difficult.”

Seven years later, and Park is a stalwart in Ferguson's starting line-up himself, and has regularly spoken about how he would happily finish his career with the Red Devils.
