Malouda eyes Giggs role

Florent Malouda has revealed he wants to become Chelsea's own Ryan Giggs and has had talks with Roman Abramovich about his future.

The 30-year-old joined Chelsea in 2007 from Lyon and, after a less than spectacular start, has become a pivotal member of their squad.

The French star admits that sometimes he does not get the credit he deserves, especially back in France.

"My career is doing my talking for me," he told L'Equipe.

"Last season I was named Chelsea player of the season by my team-mates, technical staff and fans, but few people paid attention to it in France."

Malouda's current deal is due to expire in 2013 but he wants to extend that to beyond the 2014 World Cup finals, and he has revealed direct contact with Chelsea owner Abramovich.

He added: "Indeed, I feel fine at Chelsea and it is true I would like to line my contract up with the 2014 World Cup to feel serene.

"I would also like to become the Chelsea Ryan Giggs, someone who would really mark the club, like Javier Zanetti at Inter or Paolo Maldini at AC Milan. I really and deeply admire those players.

"I am directly in talks with Roman Abramovich. Early this season he replied to me that I could stay at Chelsea until I was 40 years old, but there was no money because the club had to reach a financial equilibrium in 2012.

"But I met him again. I can allow myself to knock at the boss' door. Actually he likes that. We have frank talks."

Malouda insists he does not listen to speculation about his future, adding: "Rumours of a summer departure? Since Jose Mourinho, who signed me, left Chelsea, I have been rumoured to join a lot of clubs during each transfer window."

The Chelsea star also cannot wait for their match at Old Trafford on Sunday when the champions could move above Manchester United on goal difference.

"The whole team is cool, we know we have no choice: to retain our title, we have to win at Manchester," he said.

"The whole world will watch this match, and I came to England to experience moments like this."
