Goodwin plans to follow Giggsy's lead
Saints skipper Jim Goodwin admits he’ll never be as skillful as Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs ... but he plans to emulate the Welsh wizard by playing on until he’s 40.
At the age of 31, Goodwin reckons he still has plenty of years left in the tank.
And the Irishman insists that Giggsy, who’ll turn 40 in November, is providing him with plenty of inspiration.
Goodwin said: “I’ve set a target of playing until I’m 40. People laugh at me when I say that but I’m trying to keep myself fit.
“Any player can play as long as they want nowadays, with all the sports science that’s available.
“Just look at guys like Ryan Giggs, who is still playing at the highest level.
“I’m not saying I’ll play SPL at 40 but I’d like to still be playing football.”
Goodwin also confirmed that he hopes to make it as a manager once his playing days are at an end.
He added: “I started doing Level 1 and Level 2 badges with the FA down in England when I was 20-years-old and now I’m on the same SFA coaching course as Steven Thompson and Gary Teale.
“We’re down at Largs on June 1 to get the A Licence assessment and then we’ll think about going on and doing the Pro Licence after that.
“I want to get this done as quickly as I can because managing and coaching is what I want to do at the end of my playing career.”
