Giggs ropes in pals to spruce up wine list
Giggs, who quit as Man Utd assistant manager after new coach Jose Mourinho arrived, is revamping his restaurant’s wine list.
And he signed up Barcelona’s Andres Iniesta, England cricket star Jimmy Anderson and golf champ Nick Faldo to help him.
They have all put their names to bottles of wine which will be available at the plush eaterie, George’s, in Worsley, Lancs.
And the sporting celebrities will be guests of honour at a star-studded launch.
A source said: “Ryan and the team have been in talks with the wine merchants behind the sporting legends wines and are looking forward to welcoming them all to the restaurant for the launch.
“Who knows, maybe the wine world is something Ryan is keen to get involved in.”
Giggs, 42, carried on former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson’s tradition of having a drink with opposition bosses after matches.
But unlike Sir Alex, who enjoyed a glass of wine, Giggs had a can of Red Stripe lager.
He took over as caretaker manager at United following the sacking of David Moyes in April 2013.
He led the club for their final four Premier League games before becoming assistant during Louis van Gaal’s ill-fated reign last season.
A George’s spokesman said: “In keeping with the owners’ interest in sport, the restaurant is bringing in wine ranges from sporting legends.
“We are delighted to be adding the ranges of Nick Faldo, Jimmy Anderson and Andres Iniesta and we look forward to welcoming them to our launch.”
