United duo could face City

Manchester United are hopeful Ryan Giggs and Nani will be fit for next week's crunch derby clash with Manchester City.

Nani will miss Saturday's match against Wolves after picking up a groin injury in the midweek UEFA Champions League win over Bursaspor, while Giggs is edging towards full fitness after hamstring trouble.

United will be keen to have the pair available for the trip to Eastlands with Wayne Rooney still missing with an ankle injury.

Assistant manager Mike Phelan is unsure if Giggs will be fit to face Wolves, with the veteran likely to saved for the derby showdown.

"Ryan has been back in training and has started his preparation for the matches," said Phelan. "Whether he will be available for tomorrow we are not quite sure yet."

Fitness boost

Phelan revealed Nani's injury is not as serious as first feared and that they are working on having him fit for next Wednesday's trip across Manchester.

"There is a possibility he [Nani] could play against Manchester City," added Phelan.

"Having reported in yesterday with the injury from Tuesday night, he felt a lot better than we expected, so we are going to progress him as quickly as we can with a view to next week."

Darren Fletcher is in contention to face Wolves as he tries to shake off an ankle knock he suffered against Bursaspor.

"Darren Fletcher is showing positive signs that he could recover," said Phelan.

"We will have a look at him again this morning and hopefully he will be available."
