Robin van Persie lists the five players that impressed him most at Manchester United

Former Manchester United striker Robin van Persie has opened up on his time at Old Trafford, revealing which five players impressed him the most during his three year spell with the club.

Signed from Arsenal in August 2012 for a fee north of £20m, the Dutchman soon established him as a fans' favourite at Old Trafford, notching 26 Premier League goals in his debut campaign to help United win the Premier League title, capping off the Sir Alex Ferguson era in style.

During his time at the club, Van Persie, who retired last May, had the honour of playing alongside some famous names, but he has now revealed which five stars stood out for him over the rest.

In an interview with So Foot, he said: "It's hard to answer because most of them were impressive in their own style.

"I think you always have to be yourself, and these players were strong because they expressed their own nature.

"[Nemanja] Vidic was a warrior. He put his head where normally it's scary to do so. He did anything to win. Ferdinand, he was more ‘elegant’, comfortable with the ball, strong in aerial play, good in long play.

"[Ryan] Giggs was the flamboyant player, always giving the impression of being in his comfort zone. Still in great shape at 39. He did yoga and lived football all the time."

The former Feyenoord man was also full of praise for Wayne Rooney, who he enjoyed plenty of success playing alongside in his first season at Old Trafford.

"Rooney was impressive in his own style too," added van Persie. "The guy was always full on.

"Also Patrice Evra, who always spoke loudly to instil confidence in the team. Today, I know he makes ‘funny’ videos, but please don't believe that’s all he is, as he is also a super professional and a super-intelligent guy.

"He speaks five languages – even Korean! His physical appearance shows how professional he is. His mind is as strong as his body.”
