Giggs unfazed by critics' jibes

Ryan Giggs has laughed off any criticism of United this season as the Reds stand on the brink of the title with a Wembley date against Barcelona already in the diary.

Some critics have sneered that the current squad cannot compare to many of Sir Alex Ferguson's previous sides and that 2010/2011 will simply not go down as a vintage campaign.

However, United have made a mockery of such suggestions and a fourth victory of the term against champions Chelsea has set up a glorious final few weeks.

Giggs is aware of the lack of credit being paid in some quarters but is certainly not unduly concerned.

"To be honest, it really doesn't bother us," he told MUTV. "We all concede that, in the first half of the season, we were not playing brilliantly but we were getting results.

"The second half of the season, after Christmas, we've been brilliant. The performances have been brilliant and so have the results.

"We've played some great stuff in both the European games and in the league so we don't really care what people say. We know the quality in the dressing room and so does the manager."

Giggs was also asked about whether a familiar team selection helped in the two 2-1 home wins against Chelsea - in the league and in Europe.

"I think so," he replied. "We know that we’re capable of playing good football which we did in those two games. I felt that we did that, especially early on in the game.

"We knew that we had to just keep attacking because one goal often isn’t enough against a team like Chelsea because of the attacking options they’ve got. You saw the pressure they put us under second half and they got the goal back. We knew that we had to just keep attacking, that’s what we did in the Champions League games.

“It’s a great start. It could have been quite easy for us to take our foot off the pedal. But I don’t think we did that. We knew that we needed more than the one goal and it was great to see Vida’s goal go in."
