Giggs: Reds as hungry as ever

Ryan Giggs made his 21st appearance in a red shirt at Wembley in Sunday's Community Shield and collected yet another trophy, and he insists his and the team's desire to win silverware will never waver.
 
The 39-year-old Welshman was excellent during the 2013/14 season curtain-raiser as the Reds eased to a 2-0 win over Wigan.
 
It was the perfect way for David Moyes to begin his reign as United boss and Giggs says that while there will be stiff competition from big-spending Manchester City and Jose Mourinho-led Chelsea, he has faith in the Reds' ability to deliver the goods again this term.
 
"It's always nice to win the Community Shield. It's a good start to the season. It's good for the new manager and everyone else concerned - we have started the season with a trophy," the veteran told PA Sport.
 
"It was a lot of the players' first time to win it and obviously the manager's. We wanted to win it and put on a good show.
 
"Winning is what this club's all about. You can't win every year, but we want to compete and give ourselves the best chance. That's what we've done over the years. We're the champions, we know how hard it is to defend, but we'll do our best."
 
There have been changes aplenty among the Barclays Premier League title contenders this summer, with new managers and players joining rivals Manchester City and Chelsea. That presents new challenges, but Giggs says the Reds will meet them head on.
 
"Obviously Mourinho has come into Chelsea and City are spending quite a bit of money, but it is not something we are worried about," he adds.
 
"We are the champions. We know it's not easy to defend the trophy, but we have experienced it before and we will try to do it again this season. The quality is in the squad. We showed that last year. Now we have to show it again."
 
The Reds, so far, have not brought in any established signings, but Giggs isn't pinning all United's hopes for the new campaign on new signings.  
 
"I think it has been a slow transfer window," he says. "I said City had done their business early on but other than that, there has not been a lot of movement. It could be a hectic last two weeks. We will just have to wait and see.
 
"If we sign someone - great. If not we will just get on with it. We are quite happy with the players in our dressing room. We won the league with those players and we are looking forward to the start of the season."
