Giggs predicts Blues battle

Ryan Giggs believes Chelsea are a bigger threat to Manchester United this season than their neighbours Manchester City.

The Blues have been touted as title contenders having spent an enormous sum of cash in the summer transfer window.

The likes of Yaya Toure, Jerome Boateng, David Silva and Aleksandar Kolarov have all joined the ranks, making City, for some, a leading player in the race for top honours in the Premier League.

But Giggs has quickly dismissed such suggestions, saying defending champions Chelsea will be a bigger concern for United in the upcoming campaign.

"Chelsea are the champions and they have been there and done it like us," Giggs told the Manchester News.

"Arsenal have got talented players but they have not won the title for a number of years.

"Then you have Tottenham, Liverpool, Aston Villa and City."

Although not completely dismissive of Roberto Mancini's charges, Giggs remains adamant that Chelsea pose a bigger threat.

He admits that Mancini's side are almost an unknown quantity, but feels it will take time for those new players to settle in.

"You can't say they are not bringing in quality players but it is a question of how quickly they can gel together," he said.

"They showed last season that on their day they can beat anyone, but it was that consistency they lacked.

"They have got the quality, but it does not necessarily mean they are going to be in front."
