Giggs: I'll continue as long as I'm contributing

The dynamic Welshman has just celebrated winning an unprecedented 13th Premier League winners' medal and, at the age of 39, he feels he can prolong his career further
Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs says he will continue his playing career as long as he can still have a positive impact on matches.

The Welshman turns 40 in November and there have been recurring questions over the veteran’s likely retirement date, with manager Sir Alex Ferguson seemingly confirming Giggs will continue for another season in January.

And now, following his 13th league crown with United, Giggs is not prepared to hang up his boots for the foreseeable future.

"I'm just enjoying it and as long as I'm enjoying it and contributing to the team then I’m going to carry on," he told the Times of India.

“When we went on the second lap of honour [after beating Aston Villa 3-0 on Monday to clinch the title] I thought to myself 'hey, where are you going! The tunnel’s that way!'.

"I was a bit tired. But I’ll keep on going. As long as I’m contributing I’ll carry on.”

It's not only the longevity of Giggs' career that has been the subject of much speculation, with questions also surrounding the length of Sir Alex's tenure at Old Trafford. However, Giggs insists the Scot has no plans on calling it a day soon.

He added: "Nobody thinks he's about to stop. His appetite is still second to none. Every day at the training ground he's the first there, his enthusiasm is brilliant and that feeds through the club; he is the club."
