Giggs expects home comforts

Ryan Giggs is confident Manchester United can dispose of Marseille in the last-16 of the UEFA Champions League.

The Red Devils welcome the reigning French champions to Old Trafford on Tuesday for the second leg of their European encounter.

A goalless draw at Stade Velodrome in the first meeting between the two sides has left the tie wide open, with a place in the quarter-finals still very much up for grabs.

United know they can ill-afford to concede an away goal, while they also need to take the initiative on home soil and pose an attacking threat.

Giggs, an old hand when it comes to some contests, is confident Sir Alex Ferguson's side will strike the right balance and take another step closer to continental glory.

"At Old Trafford we back ourselves against anyone," said the veteran Welsh winger.

"It is going to be tough. It is the Champions League and 0-0 is always a sticky scoreline because we know if they score an away goal we will have to get two.

"What we need to do is get one and then pile on the goals to negate the possibility of an away one."

While acknowledging that one goal for Marseille would tip the tie in their favour, Giggs is convinced that United will raise their game for the big occasion and get the job done.

He added: "Marseille were quite solid in the first leg but they didn't risk anything. They were probably afraid to concede an away goal.

"As a consequence, we didn't get into our rhythm like we know we can.

"The pitch was a bit uneven so our passing wasn't as crisp and the tempo wasn't what Manchester United are used to.

"We defended well but overall it wasn't the best of games. I am sure this one will be better."
