Giggs: City are title rivals

Ryan Giggs admits Manchester City are serious contenders for the Barclays Premier League title.
 
Veteran Giggs is part of the United side that top the table, two points ahead of City.
 
Arsenal are a further two points adrift and with this season's title run-in apparently wide open, Giggs knows City are serious contenders.
 
He said: "Of course they can [win it] with the quality of players they've got and the strength of depth they have.
 
"They are just able to go out buy players like Edin Dzeko in the January transfer window so you have to take them seriously. They are one of four or five teams that could win it."
 
Despite not being at their best, United remain unbeaten in the league while Chelsea have floundered in recent weeks, but Giggs insists the title race is still the most open for many a year.
 
"I think as a team we can improve, but we're happy where we are and we're happy with our performances so far," he told Sky Sports News HD.
 
"It's a tough league and this season everyone's beating everyone. It's not been a typical season, I would say, to over the last 10 or 15 years.
 
"We probably haven't been at our best every game but we've got that resolve, we've got experience, we've got good defenders who can keep teams out. But hopefully we can get better."
 
Giggs added: "You can't write anybody off because if a team goes on a run of eight or 10 games of winning, they'll be up there because the other teams are going to drop points because anyone can beat anyone and we've seen so many strange results this year.
 
"Usually by this time it's down to two or three teams but I think there's still five teams that could win it."

Giggs is hoping Wayne Rooney can return to the United forward line at Tottenham on Sunday - a game you can see live on Sky Sports HD1 and in Sky 3D.
 
The United striker has missed the last two games due to an ankle injury he suffered during the 2-1 win at West Brom.
 
Rooney opened the scoring with his first goal from open play for United since March and Giggs admits the England star is eager for the chance to get back on the goal trail after ending that drought.
 
"Wayne's got an injury at the moment but hopefully he'll be back for Sunday," he said.
 
"He had a problem with his ankle but his last game against West Brom he was man of the match.
 
"Unfortunately he picked up that injury but he's getting sharper and sharper, stronger and stronger, and hopefully he'll be back for Sunday."
 
Giggs is the only player to have played and scored in every Premier League season and is set make his 600th league appearance for United at White Hart Lane, extending his record as the club's leading appearance maker.
 
The 37-year-old winger is under contract until the summer and given he has made another 11 starts this term, he could extend his glittering Old Trafford career into another season.
 
"I've always said the three things I'm always looking for are that I'm getting picked, that I'm enjoying it and that I'm fit," he said.
 
"At the moment all those things are happening so I carry on playing.
 
"The last two or three years we've reviewed it as the season's gone on to see what I'm doing next year and we'll do the same this season. At the moment I'm enjoying it more than ever."
