Aston Villa Plan Ashley Young Talks
ASTON VILLA will hold last-ditch talks with wantaway Ashley Young to keep him from the clutches of Manchester United.
The England winger is a £15m January target for the Premier League leaders, who have pinpointed Young as the man they want to replace Ryan Giggs.
Young has decided his future lies away from Villa Park and will look to leave the Midlanders as early as next month.
He is refusing to sign a new four-year deal worth in the region of £75,000 a week at Villa Park.
But the club haven’t given up hope of persuading Young to sign the contract and have called in their star man for talks in a desperate bid to get him to change his mind.
Chief executive Paul Faulkner will meet Young before Sunday’s clash against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge to try to persuade him his future remains at Villa.
Young has only 18 months left to run on his current deal and Villa know his previous £25m value will continue to fall as his contract runs down.
However, if Young continues to dig his heels in, Villa will have no option but to part with him as early as next month.
United boss Sir Alex Ferguson is a huge admirer of Young’s delivery at pace and his versatility of playing anywhere across the attacking third.
Replacing veterans Edwin van der Sar, Paul Scholes and Giggs is high on Fergie’s to-do list – and the capture of Young would solve one of those problems.
Liverpool and Tottenham are also interested but Young wants guaranteed Champions League football.
