Fjortoft hails Muller as “the Giggs of Bayern”

Former Middlesbrough forward and now Bundesliga pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has compared Bayern Munich’s Thomas Muller to Manchester United icon Ryan Giggs.

Muller has often been linked with a move to the Premier League, and it was reported recently that Chelsea had joined long-term suitors Manchester United in the race for the Germany international, as per the Mirror.

However, on Wednesday Muller hinted that he would sign a contract extension with the Bavarian club, as per ESPN, even if his current deal already runs until 2019.

“There is a lot of indication for it and not a lot against it,” said Muller when quizzed about a new Bayern contract during a PR event on Wednesday.

Much like Giggs did at Manchester United, Muller came through the ranks at Bayern, and has been with the club since 2000.

The Welsh No.7 made a staggering 672 league appearances for the Red Devils over 24 years, and he collected many honours: 13 Premier League titles, four FA Cups, three League Cup crowns and the Champions League twice.

Muller has enjoyed a similarly trophy-laden career so far. At the age of just 26, Muller has won the Bundesliga on four occasions, the DFB Pokal three times and the Champions League once.

He is on course for another title this year, with Bayern eight points clear in the Bundesliga.

Only Douglas Costa (31) has created more league chances than Muller (30) in 2015/16, as the versatile attacker continues to shine for the reigning champions.

In the Champions League this term, Muller has been in imperious form, scoring five goals in as many matches.
