MK Dons checking availability of Ryan Giggs

MK Dons will check on the availability of Ryan Giggs before choosing their next manager to replace Karl Robinson.

Having given Robinson an unusually long tenure of six years, MK owner Pete Winkelman is considering a change in strategy in order to raise morale and the profile of his League One club who are currently in the bottom half of the table.

That means first-time managers and big names from the world of football will be considered rather than those candidates with wide experience of League One.

Winkelman has previously employed Paul Ince and Roberto Di Matteo and would like to see if Giggs would consider starting his career there with the former Manchester United idol having withdrawn any interest in Wigan Athletic.

Another candidate is former MK Dons player Paul Mitchell who is better known for his successful work as the Head of Recruitment and Southampton and Tottenham.

Though Mitchell hasn't worked as a first-team manager before, Winkelman won't rule candidates out on that criteria feeling an injection energy is important after the club seemed to go stale under Robinson following relegation from The Championship in May.
