Daniel James urged to seize his chance to shine by Wales boss Ryan Giggs

Dan James has been urged to seize his chance to shine tonight by Wales boss Ryan Giggs.

The Manchester United wideman has started both Wales' games this term in victories over Finland and Bulgaria last month.

He is line to face England at Wembley where he can win his 13th cap.

Giggs will look to James to inspire Wales as the visitors are without key duo Gareth Bale and Aaron Ramsey.

But the flying winger, 22, is rusty as he has found his minutes for Manchester United restricted this season.

James has made just two starts and been subbed early in both matches.

Giggs, a United legend, assessed: “It is up to DJ to step up and make sure when he does get the chance he takes it.

“If he has not been playing it gives him the opportunity to get minutes on the pitch.

“When he was with us last time he was excellent in both games. He had not played a lot of games but he looked really sharp.

“He has got that speed that always keeps the opposition interested.

“He has got that directness, as he showed in our last games. He made the goal in the first game and was brilliant for us.

“Dan has friends here, ex-team-mates and other friends in the squad.

“He always enjoys coming away and training and the atmosphere.”

Giggs was in the stands at Old Trafford to see Spurs stun United 6-1 on Sunday.

He revealed James wasn't involved after having an illness but says the £15million signing from Swansea in June 2019 is now pushing to play.

Giggs added: “He played against Brighton in midweek and just felt something before the game and afterwards it wiped him out.

“He had a couple of days where he has been off his feet and had a bit of a bug.

“So that was the reason.

“But he has trained the last couple of days.”

After England, Wales have a Nations League double-header away in Ireland on Sunday and then visit Bulgaria on Wednesday.

Ramsey is set to be available for the competitive games after missing tonight's friendly due to covid restrictions at his Italian club Juventus.

In his absence, Wales defender Ben Davies is favourite to get the armband vacated by Bale.

Spurs ace Davies,27, said: “It would be an incredible honour and amazing to lead Wales out.
